BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — Local clergy from different denominations united to serve dinner at the 13th Annual Dining for Dollars fundraiser.
“This is the third one I attended and it’s wonderful,” said Marie Foster of Endwell. “The food is excellent, the environment is excellent, the music everything is lovely.”
Foster’s pastor, Reverend Mark Kimpland, was her server. Kimpland, along with the other servers at Thursday night’s event did more than just provide food and drinks, they sang and even cracked jokes all to raise as much money as they could..
“The clergy can be asked to do certain things in order to to get a tip,” said Sue Spencer who is the Director of Faith in Action Volunteers. The organization has put on the event for the past 13 years. Faith In Action helps senior citizens by providing transportation or shopping services.
Spencer said Thursday’s tips will continue Faith in Action’s mission.
“Its a win-win,” said Kimpland who received many tips after getting up in front of the crowd, of more than 150, to sing a duet of “B-I-N-G-O.” The performance was followed by a round of applause.
“It’s so great to have everyone here,” explained Peter Baumann who came up from Susquehanna, Pa. “All religions working together to accomplish something so important.”
Broome County Sheriff David Harder and local radio personality Roger Neel joined the clergy as guest servers to dish out food provided by the Polish Community Center.
Profits from raffles also went to the cause.
