This committee
has worked diligently to reduce violence in our culture, reduce
prejudice and work for economic justice. A major collaborative
effort of understanding and discussion about the human lives
lost in the ongoing Sudan Crisis was initiated by the committee
and became a joint work with the Council's Interfaith Ministries.
The result of the work was a joint statement approved by the
Board of Directors calling for greater sensitivity, awareness
and educational priorities within the larger community. |

| Our
24th Annual Hunger Walk for CHOW was a great success. Approximately
700 walkers braved the chilly weather on Sunday, October 16,
to join the wonderful staff and student volunteers at Binghamton
University and raise, to date, over $50,000. Many thanks go
out to all the walkers and the volunteers, especially the Off
Campus College staff and all the volunteers from Binghamton
University, and the groups that entertained the walkers and
volunteers: Vestal Voices, X Factor, Black Dance Repertoire,
Kickline, Megasounds, and the Edward P. Maloney Pipe Band who
led the walkers out. Sodexho Food Services provided a hot meal
for all the walkers and volunteers at the conclusion of the
walk. |

| Here's
how our congregations can transform a Sunday famous for football
and fast foods into a meaningful event: taking part in the Souper
Bowl of Caring. Children hold soup kettles near exits as members
of the congregation leave after Sunday services. Parishioners
each toss loose change, a dollar or the cost of a fast food
meal into the kettle. The money will be sent to the Broome County
Council of Churches' hunger relief program, C.H.O.W., to help
alleviate hunger. For more information, contact eblaine@broomecouncil.net.
